Hi!! My name is Amber!
I have a music studio in my home where I offer private piano lessons to all of my students. Since 2021, I have also added in-home lessons within the SW Calgary area.
In 2008, I graduated from Laurentian University with a B.A. specializing in music (piano). Besides piano, I also play the flute and sing. My music involvement now, aside from teaching and playing for personal enjoyment, is mostly in our church where I play for services and choirs. My family lives on a little acreage where we homeschool our children, and where I also teach the piano lessons.
What I enjoy most about teaching piano is seeing my students' excitement over music that they have learned, and their enjoyment and sense of accomplishment from that!
Music is something that anyone can learn and can pursue to any level accomplishment. Not everyone will be a concert pianist, but everyone can have fun! Music is a way to express feelings and emotions through the sound of the piano. It is so much more than just learning the right notes.
I do believe that an understanding of theory is an important part of learning music. It is something that I incorporate into the lessons with a separate theory book, and also by having a direct application of a theory concept in the pieces they are learning. As well as theory and lesson work, technique work (such as scales, triads and arpeggios), sight and ear training is also taught.
My music studio is located outside Brant, Alberta. (Rural Vulcan County)
