Lesson Times and Attendance
I am available only for teaching in my own home. My teaching days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Specific lesson times that are available will be given upon request. There will be 32 weeks of lessons between September through May of each teaching year.
If a student receives an injury (example breaking or spraining a finger, wrist or arm), lessons will still continue as scheduled, but theory and ear training will be the focus of our time.
Registration and Payment
A signed registration form, with the yearly registration fee of $10.00 per student, will guarantee a lesson time.
Registration is by term with cheques submitted for the year (Sep – May); cheques to be dated for the first of each month for that term.
Missed Lessons
No make-up classes are available for lessons missed by the student. Any classes missed by me, because of serious illness or emergency for instance, WILL be made up at a time agreed upon between myself and the student's family.
Online Lessons
Online lessons are alternatively available at regular day and time are options for sickness or weather for students travelling to my home. If road conditions or emergency illness prevent my travel into Calgary, I will schedule online classes for that day or a makeup class for any in-home students. I use facetime or skype for this.
Discontinuation of Lessons
If you are unable to return for the spring term, notice must be given by December 1st. January's payment will be kept for one month's notice otherwise. Once a term has started, registration is final.
Practice and Progress
Practice time expectations will vary depending on the age of the student. I will give suggestions for practice efficiency and times needed to the individual student. Regular and consistent practicing is essential for progress. A minimum of five days per week is expected. It is discouraging to me, and inevitably the student, when lessons have to turn into practice sessions. Please make sure you come prepared to your lesson!
Performance Opportunities
At the end of the teaching year, we have a final spring recital. Playing music for others I believe is an exciting way to share an accomplishment as well as be an encouragement! Last year's exciting recital was held at my home/acreage location followed with a potluck enjoyed by all! :)
Confirmed recital times and details will be given accordingly.
Personal interest in other opportunities for each student, such as playing a special at church or at school, can be worked towards individually.
